How We Make Video Content at Infogram

22.03.2017 by Anete Ezera

These days, video content is the go-to resource for users who want to find information about products: learn how to use them, how to access certain features and accomplish specific tasks – but also to find out more about the company as a whole.

Videos are attractive because of their engaging format, and they are a great way to get your message across quickly without requiring much effort on the part of the viewer. The problem is that good videos take quite a lot of work to create.

Each company has a choice to make: hire an external studio to produce their video content (which can be costly and take time), or develop their content in-house. Here at Infogram, we have been fortunate enough to be able to make videos using the latter.

Until about a year ago, most of our videos were collected from recorded webinars, events and tutorials. Last year we made the ambitious decision to launch a Data Visualization Workshop series: a concise web-series outlining the most helpful data visualization techniques, along with how to accomplish them with Infogram.

We wanted to create useful longer-form, well-produced academic content.  Something with more longevity than a 60-second feature. It took some time to decide on the format along with the look and feel of the episodes and topics we wanted to cover. After a couple of months, we launched regular episodes and are now up to 9 videos.

Recently, we started making short Tips & Tricks videos showing how to complete certain tasks, and New Features when a major update is added.  We are also updating our tutorials every few months.

More recently, we’ve started adding company culture videos, which offer a peek into life at Infogram: What is Infogram, Work & Play at Infogram, and Request a Demo.

Our most ambitious undertaking so far was just last week: after meeting and discussing how we could contribute to the current demand for live video, we made our first Facebook Live broadcast showing how to get started with our tool. The video, including replays, garnered over thousands of views within a couple of days.

Instead of a scheduled webinar, we were able to reach more new users and help them take their first steps. You can expect to see Infogram on Facebook Live a lot more.

How did we manage to produce so much content in such a short time? By harnessing the talent of our team and taking risks in order to write, direct and produce new videos.

Since July, I have been a one-person team: writing, casting, filming, recording, taking screen captures, audio, music, editing, producing and publishing all of our videos.

I am able to refine them with input from our marketing team, along with video footage from other team members who have also taken the initiative to film events.

It is an amazing opportunity for me because I am able to practice hands-on learning while building a library of videos that demonstrate my passion and interests.

Because I was encouraged to follow my dreams and contribute my own creative talents, it has been both fulfilling, engaging and an excellent way to help add useful videos to our website, blog, Facebook page and YouTube channel.

If your company is looking to grow your own video content library, before hiring anyone new, have a look at your organization. We think you’ll find people who are inspired to record, produce, get involved, and apply their excitement to your company.
